2018 QLD U/16 Secondary School Boys

11/8/18 Congratulations to QLD U/16 Secondary School Boys winning the National title 4-2 against WA. After 7 days of fantastic hockey the boys played amazingly after being defeated by WA in the round game. Maryborough boys included Ryley Kroning and Diarmid Chappell. Mitch Baker who was Manager/Assistant Coach of the boys was a Mboro Tigers Lad before he moved to Brisbane.

2018 Australian Country Hockey Championships, August 3-11 in Berri, SA

11/08/18 Well done to our players Tarack Chappell, Matthew Axelsen and Eva Kersnovske at the recent 2018 Australian Country Hockey Championships, August 3-11 in Berri, SA. QLD Country Women played outstandingly, winning back to back games. Vs NSW in the final, QLD were victorious winning the gold medal 1-0. Congratulations to Eva Kersnovske for receiving Player of the Final. QLD Country Men received Silver Medal in a incredible game. Congratulations to Tarack Chappell also received the player of the match in the Semi Final defeating Australian Defence Force 3-1.

2018 U/16 Australian team announced

11/08/18 16 & Under All Australian Hockey Teams were announced this week. These two teams will travel to Europe in late May/early June next year to play in the 4 Nations Whitsun Tournament in Mannheim, Germany. This was a round robin competition where 7 teams played with Maryborough winning 5 out of their 6 games to win the challenge. This is an amazing effort and the second year in a row to win gold. U13s compete at Nationals

19/10/17: Congratulations to Taryn Knight who returned from the nationals with a gold medal after competing at the Nationals in Perth from 28/09/17 to 08/10/17. Taryn's team, Cinders, finished the tournament undefeated and top of the ladder. Embers came in a close 3rd. In the boys, the Cutters finished 3rd, and the Sabres in 5th. Maryborough was well represented and extremely proud of all these players: Taj, Ben, Ryan, Andie G, Andie S, Maddy, Annelyse and Taryn.

U15s return from State Championships

22/09/17: The Fraser Coast rep teams have returned from the State Championships with the boys finishing in equal 3rd and the girls in 10th position. Both teams competed in Division 1 playing against the best teams in the state. The boys only lost 1 game and the girls were also unfortunate being defeated by only 1 goal in 3 games. From these championships a squad has been selected. Trudi - Australia Indoor player

16/09/17: Congratulations to Trudi who will be touring the USA at the end of this month with the Australian Development team. The tour will give the team some international experience when they take on the USA as they are preparing for the World Cup Qualifiers. Trudi has overcome some hurdles after having reconstruction surgery and rehabilitation from an ankle injury. Trudi has put in the hard yards and it is great to see that the determination and effort has paid off. Well done Trude!

2017 Division 1 Premiers

03/09/17: Congratulations Roos and Uniteds. The Div 1 Mens game was 4-4 when with less than 1 min to go Roos were awarded a corner which resulted in another corner and was converted for Roos to defeat Granville 5-4. This was a spectacular game to watch with everyone on the edge of their seats the entire game. In the Div 1 Womens game Uniteds scored with 6 mins to go resulting in a full time score of 1-1. Ninja Warrior Junior Breakup

27/08/17: What a great way to finish the hockey season for our U6s and U8s. The morning was filled with fun and activities and ended with the kids chasing after Menthos man. Thanks to Ninja Gloria and her Ninja warrior helpers for making this such a fun morning. It was great to see how much the hockey skills on these young ones have improved during the season and also wonderful for them to make lots of new friends. 06/08/17: A boys team and two girls teams competed in Brisbane for the Coulter Shield and Southern Cross Tournaments. All teams were undefeated in their respective divisions. This is the best results ever seen by our U11s at this tournament and just goes to show the depth and talent of our young ones. Masters Women State Championships

24/07/17: Well, the State Championships have ended and both teams should be congratulated for their results. The No 1 team worked through injuries (which does happen when you are over 35yrs) to finish 6th in the state which is an amazing result. The No 2 team played in the final to finish 2nd in Div 4. 16/07/17: Congratulations to both the girls and boys teams who had a great day at the Sunny Coast competing at the Wide Bay Championships (Zone). These teams had a very busy day playing teams from Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Gympie and Hervey Bay. The girls were undefeated scoring an amazing 28 goals and only 1 against in their 5 games. The boys played some tough opposition and only lost by 1 goal in 2 games. For many of these players this was their first experience at rep hockey and they all did Maryborough proud. U13 State Cships come to an end

04/07/17: The Fraser Coast is extremely proud of our 4 teams who competed at the U13 State Championships. The placings were: Boys No 1 4th; Boys No 2 6th; Girls No 1 3rd; Girls No 2 6th. Both the No 1 teams played in the semis and were extremely unfortunate to lose these games. Our No 1 teams competed in Div 1 so the competition was extremely fierce. The players in the No 2 teams showed determination and effort in every game and for many of these players this was their first experience at State Championships. Well done to you all! 04/07/17: At the conclusion of the U13 State Championships Ben Redmond was named 'Goalkeeper of the Tournament' and Maddy Kenny was named 'Player of Tournament'. Ben is a very talented goalkeeper and made some incredible saves throughout the championships. Maddy is a star forward who has an enormous amount of talent and scored some amazing goals during the championships. 27/06/17: Our U18s have returned from the State Championships in Toowoomba and Tweed. The women finished 7th in Div 1 which was an improvement from last year. The Men's No 1 team finished 5th in Div 1. These teams competed against the best teams in the state. The Men's No 2 team finished 8th in D2/3. Well done to these teams who did the Fraser Coast proud. Qld honours to Taryn, Meka and Preston

18/06/17: A number of our Maryborough players were selected in the Wide Bay Team to compete in the Qld Primary School Championship in Brisbane. The boys finished the championship in 5th and the girls 7th. Congratulations to Taryn Knight, Meka Crick, Preston Mushan for their selection in the Qld team and Leila Steffen as shadow. Ron Heselwood Cup....Roos win it again

16/06/17: The challenge was on between Div 2 Granville and Roos for the Ron Heselwood Cup. Roos made the most of opportunities to win the game 5-0. At half time the score was 3-0 and Granville had a number of shots at goal however they could not get the ball in the net. It was a great night and both teams should be congratulated for their sportsmanship and the spirit in which the game was played. Good on you boys!

11/06/17: Our U13 Girls Maryborough Rep team has been crowned champions after being undefeated in the Zone Championships held in Gympie. Congratulations to this team and to Coach Belinda and Manager Neita. The boys were unfortunate to have only one loss to the Sunny Coast 2-1 who were eventual winners. Stick up for Brett

04/07/17: Our Div 1 Women showed their respect for the tragic loss of Senior Constable Brett Forte. 37 yr old Brett was fatally shot in an incident whilst on a normal day's duty. Our police officers face incredible danger and show tremendous bravery on a daily basis in keeping our community safe. Brett’s death has devastated the wider community and is a reminder of the complexities and challenges they are continually confronted with. Let's show our support for our local police officers and next time you see them tell them what a great job they are doing.

20/05/17: Saturday nights game between Brothers and Colts had everyone on the edge of their seats. With only 3 mins left in the game the score was 0-0 however Bros were awarded a corner which resulted in a penalty stroke. This was converted for a final result 1-0 to Brothers. This was a great game with both teams putting everything they had into it. Credit must go to these players who have made the Div 1 Mens competition a great competition in 2017. Vale Bevin Warren - 13/05/17 Aged 90

14/05/17: The Maryborough hockey community is mourning the loss one of its Life Members. Bevin Warren was bestowed with a Life Membership of the Maryborough & District Hockey Association in 1991, after having been presented with a Service Award in 1981. Bevin’s involvement in Hockey in Maryborough commenced long before the move from Doon Villa to Woodstock Street, way back in the 1950’s. 26/04/17: A number of our men did us proud at the O50s State Championships on the Anzac Day long weekend in Townsville. Fraser Coast and Ipswich played in the Plate Final with scores locked at 1-1 at full time. March Past and grass games cancelled

17/03/17: Unfortunately with the huge downpour Friday night the grass fields are waterlogged. The match past and all grass games (morning and afternoon) have been cancelled. All morning and afternoon turf games are still on and at the same time as scheduled. The D1W game Granville v Uniteds was called off with 16 mins to go in the 1st half. The remainder of this match will be replayed at 4.30pm this Sunday. The start of the season was delayed a week due to the drought and now the fields are flooded. Hopefully next week will see a full round of fixtures.

March Past cancelled

18/03/17: We know there were lots of children looking forward to the march past on Saturday 18 March. Many teams were going all out to make this parade very special and we know there were lots of disappointed children. Unfortunately, with over 40mls of rain Friday night the grounds were flooded and not in any state to proceed with this event. From fields in drought to fields being flooded the start of this season has been very difficult and will continue to be difficult whilst this weird weather and water restrictions continue. We appreciate everyone's understanding.

Another great effort

11/03/17: Our volunteers were at it again making the grounds ready for the start of the season. Posts are now all painted and roped for the new licensed area. The boys were also busy doing some wiring work for lights. Lets just hope for rain as our fields are in desperate need of water and trainings are disrupted. What a mighty effort

04/03/17: A big thank you to our volunteers (and the ladies who fed them) who spent their Saturday helping fence the new designated licence area around the hockey fields. This involved lots of hard work with over 100 posts put in which is only the first stage of this project. 26/01/17: The Australian Indoor Championships in Wollongong have come to an end with both boys and girls U15 Qld teams awarded silver medals after being defeated by NSW. Maryborough was well represented with over 20 players representing Qld to compete in U13 to U21 age divisions. 25/01/17: Congratulations to Sam Hansen who has been selected in the Australian Country team to tour Hong Kong and Vietnam in 2 months time. 2016 capped off a very busy and successful year for Sam having played in the Qld Country team in Darwin, Super League and winning two club premierships. Sam has played for Tinana in the Div 1 team since she was 13 and is a valued member of the team and also the club and is a great role model to younger players. 24/01/17: Best of luck to Bryce, Shae, Anniston and Steve (Manager of the boys) who are currently in Wollongong at the U15 Indoor Championships. Both teams are doing extremely well so far with the girls having won 3 games and 4-3 loss to NSW. The boys have had 3 wins and a draw with the Vics. Summertime 9 Presentation

08/12/16: The last night of Summertime 9's ended with a presentation of awards. Congrats to the Red Backs team who finished top of the table. Individual awards were presented to Rookie female and male and highest goal scorers. Well done to Shelley-Maree, Angus, Steve and Jackie. 01/12/16: Congratulations to Lyn who has received an MDHA Service Award. 10 years ago the Tucker family arrived in Maryborough and as Lyn's passion is Indoor Hockey she was keen to have this re-introduced to Maryborough. Within 2 years Maryborough was proud to have 2 Qld representatives and this year 23 athletes have been awarded state recognition. Lyn has also been recognised for her continuous contribution to the MDHA outdoor field hockey through coaching club and representative hockey and assisting in a volunteer role. 07/11/16: Mbro was proud to host the Qld Indoor Challenge and the Mbro team won this Challenge. Mbro and Rockhampton played the final with scores locked at 3-3. Shoot outs were then needed and after the first round the score was even. An amazing save by Millie Mushan in sudden death and then a successful goal by Anniston Chappell resulted in eventual winners. Mbro also had a second team and this young team also did Mbro proud. 30/10/16: The Maryborough team won the Indoor Hockey Team Challenge after 3 days of hockey in Brisbane. They played in the final which resulted in a 1 all draw at full time and ended up going to three sets of shoot outs to get a result. 10 teams competed in this Challenge so this is a great result. Myra to represent Australia

30/10/16: Congratulations to Myra Reilly who will again represent Australia in Masters Hockey. Myra was selected in the Aust Masters O60 team after competing at the Aust Masters Championships in Hobart recently where she won a Bronze medal. Myra will travel to Whangarei, New Zealand in May next year to compete in the Trans Tasman Tournament. Myra is a great ambassador for Masters Hockey not only as a player but also as an official on the Hockey Qld Masters Committee. Well done Myra.

Qld Secondary School Team undefeated

22/10/16: A number of our Maryborough players have just returned from playing 8 games over 12 days in New Zealand. For the first time since inception 13 years ago, the Touring Secondary School Teams trip to New Zealand has culminated in both the men’s and women’s teams completing their games undefeated. 02/10/16: Our U13s are in Perth, Masters Men in Adelaide and now our Masters Women are heading to Hobart. Maryborough continues with its tradition of a number of Masters women in Qld teams. Di Fraser, selected in the 55’s, Myra Reilly, Gloria Weller and Lyn Bray, in 60’s Qld team, will contest the Women’s Masters Nationals Championships in Hobart from 6 October. 24/09/16: Hockey Queensland has announced the 2017 U15 Men's and Women's Squads following the State Championships which were held recentlyin Mackay (boys) and Gympie (girls). 21/09/16: The U15 State Championships are now over with both of our Fraser Coast teams finishing 5th in Div 1. The girls were very unfortunate with most matches only having 1 goal the difference. The boys scored 22 goals in their 7 games which is an amazing effort. Congrats to Diarmid Chappell who won the "Young Aspiring Player" award at the Championships. Congrats must also go to Troy Sheppard who earned her Community Umpire Badge. Thanks also to Tarack Chappell who was the official umpire for the boys. 03/09/16: Congratulations to Wallaroos who were able to put a stop to Granville Tigers 17 year winning streak with a 3-0 win. They said it had to happen and it did in 2016. Granville were the minor premiers and winner of rounds however Wallaroos were able to take out the premiership winning the Grand Final. Div 1 women Premiers ...........Tinana

03/09/16: Tinana have not beaten Wallaroos this year and they did it on Grand Final day winning 4-3. This Tinana team coached by Kathy Rogers knew they could do it and they did. Wallaroos were the favourites being minor premiers and also winner of rounds. Tinana have not won a premiership since 2011 and to come from finishing 3rd on the ladder in the Div 1 competition is a real feat. Grand Finals underway

02/09/16: Much excitement has already happened with grand final games being played. The U17 girls was a nail bitter with Roos scoring in the last minute of the game to finish with a 2-2 draw with minor premiers Uniteds. Shoot Outs were then needed to determine the winner with Roos being the eventual winners 4-3. What a game and credit to both teams for their sportmanship and putting on a great display of hockey. Junior Olympic Break Up Party

27/08/16: What a great morning was had by our juniors with fun and games to celebrate the end of a great hockey season. The kids enjoyed the olympic events of high jump, discus, hurdles, shot put and other activities. Sno cones and sausage sizzle was also a big hit. 14/08/16: The U15 boys and girls Maryborough Rep teams competed at Hervey Bay at the Wide Bay (Zone) Championships against teams from Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Gympie and Sunshine Coast. Our own little champions

08/08/16: These girls formed the U11 No 2 team and even though they did not win a game in Brisbane they showed the spirit, determination and enthusiasm that the MDHA is very proud of. Many of these girls are only 9 years of age and competed against much bigger and older girls. They played 5 games in the one day and proved they would not give up by going down by only 1 goal in all of their last 3 games. A big thank you Mary (Coach) and Jen (Manager) and the parents for their commitment and support. The MDHA is very proud of each and every one of these girls....you are all champions!

Our U11 Girls and Boys Champions

07/08/16: Our U11 boys and girls traveled to Brisbane on Sun 7 August to compete in the Southern Cross and Coulter Shield tournaments. The No 1 girls team and the boys were both undefeated to win Div 2. Both these teams had an amazing record with no goals scored against and both teams had only 1 defensive penalty corner. Unfortunately, Maryborough cannot compete in Div 1 as we are only an Invitational team. The young No 2 girls team came 6th in Div 3 and had many close games. Congratulations to you all! 05/08/16: Qld boys and girls won gold at the U12 School Australian Championships in Cairns. The boys finished equal first with WA and the girls won first outright.. Maryborough had great representation at these championships with Ben Redmond, Taj Wright, Ryan Wilcox, Andie Griffin, Maddy Kenny and Annelyse Tevant all being selected in the Qld teams. Masters Women State Championships

25/07/16: At the end of the championships Qld teams were selected to compete at the National Masters Womens Championships at Hobart in October. Myra Reilly, Lynn Bray and Gloria Weller were selected in the O60 team and Di Fraser in the O55 team. Congratulations to these players. A big congratulations also to Bundaberg Hockey who were the host for these championships. We are aware of the work involved in hosting a championship of this size and you should be commended for doing a great job. 24/07/16: Our No 1 team are the Champions with a 3-1 win over Tweed Border 2 to take the gold. This team scored the most goals for the tournament and Belinda Kenny was also named 'Player of the Final'. The No 2 team finished 8th however were a great cheer squad. Special mention also to Vicki Warren Tournament Manager, Leah Ashford Umpire Coach, umpires Trista and Naomi and Colleen Bosel as Tech official. Myra Reilly was also awarded a special award from Hockey Qld for her dedication and contribution to Womens Masters. And our supporters.... awesome effort.

It is a shame we could not quite get the numbers to field two teams as there were some very keen kids who would have loved to have been in the team. 10/07/16: Granville defeated favourites Wallaroos in a very exciting and great game seen in women's hockey for a long time. At full time the score was locked at 4-4 and even after 10 mins each way golden goal the score was still locked. Both teams were determined to fight to end with the result needing to be determined by Penalty Shoot Outs. Even after the first set of Shoot Outs the score was still locked. Hockey continues for the littlies

27/02/16: The Hookin2 Hockey program is going great and will continue each Friday afternoon from 5.30pm with the last session on 18 March. There will be a break for Easter then it will all begin again for these little kids. A new program will commence each Saturday morning from 16 April to cater for the kids who are a bit young or not confident to play in the U8 comp. Just like the big kids these younger ones will be part of a team and experience how good it is to score a goal. There will also be other fun activities. Our girls win GOLD!

08/01/16: They did it .... they beat NSW 5-3 in the final at the Australian Open Womens Indoor Championships in Wollongong. A gold medal to Trudi Pedersen, Eva Golusin, Steph Worner and manager Lyn Tucker. This is the first Qld women win since 1995. The Maroons took the spoils over home favourites New South Wales in a thrilling match which at one point saw Queensland go 5-1 up before NSW rallied in the second half. Vale Ron Heselwood

31/12/15: Departed this life on 23 December 2015 aged 83. Ron Heselwood was a Life Member of the Maryborough & District Hockey Association. He received this honour in 1989, after a lifetime of dedication to the sport that he (and his family) loved. Proof of his family’s love of the sport saw his wife June given a similar honour in 1992. Each of his 4 boys played hockey with 2 of them receiving state honours. The Heselwood name has featured on a number of levels in the history of the MDHA. Nearly 60 Boys and Girls aged 11 to 14 years from the Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Gympie and Sunshine Coast regions will be attending. Summer 9-a-Side end of comp presentation

05/12/15: For the first time MDHA held a 9-a-Side competition. Four mixed teams competed with a number of players picking up a hockey stick for the first time. This was a great competition where mums and dads and their kids could play in the same team. 14/10/15: Congratulations to Drew for being selected in the O35 Aust MastersTeam to compete at the World Cup in April 2016 in Canberra. Drew has just returned from the National Masters O35 Championships in Cairns. Ian Warren was also assistant coach of this team and also chairman of Aussie selectors for this division. Ian has also just been appointed as chairman of the Qld selection panel for Qld Masters Divisions for 2016. Congrats also to Mark Kroning for selection as shadow in the O50s Aust mens team. Well done Drew, Ian and Mark for this representation at Qld and Aust level for Masters.

Congrats to Di Fraser and Myra Reilly on Australia selection

05/10/15: Di and Myra have been selected in the Australian Masters Teams after competing at the Masters Womens National Championships. Di was in the O55 team who won Silver after going down to NSW 2-1 in the final. Di was also the highest goal scorer across all the O55 teams. Myra was in the O60 team who finished 4th. Myra was also inducted into the 'Green and Gold Club' for her contribution as a player in an Australian team for more than 10 years. Click on 'Read Full Article' for more on this.

Congratulations on U15 State Squad selections

23/09/15: More fantastic results from the U15 State Championships as Maryborough had 8 players selected in Queensland Squads. From the girls we had Anniston Chappell, Keely Reilly and Shae Staples. From the boys we had Trent Goldenstein, Luke Randle, Lachlan McLennan, Bryce Robinson and Laird McKay. Congratulations also to Josh McNamara for being named goalkeeper of the U15 Boys tournament and also Blake Kroning for umpiring the Division 2 final. Well done to you all!

Vale Jim Wroe (14/09/40 - 17/09/15)

The Maryborough hockey community is mourning the loss of a favourite son. Jim Wroe was one of nature’s true gentleman. He was a life member not only of the Maryborough & District Hockey Association, but also of his beloved Wallaroos. A life member in every respect of the word, Jim was still active with the MDHA and Wallaroos. Until only a few weeks ago, you would find Jim working behind the bar at the hockey fields on a Saturday. 06/09/15: Granville Tigers have done it again! Since 1999 Granville Tigers have won every grand final to make it 17 years in a row. Tim Lynch has been in all these winning teams and Aaron Kenny has also played and coached these teams. 17 years is truly an amazing record to hold. Congratulations Granville Tigers!

U7, U9, U10 Break up Party

29/08/15: To celebrate the 2015 hockey season a Fancy Dress Break–up Party was held for all boys and girls who played in our U7, U9 and U10 Competitions. There was lots of fun and games including the Jumping Castle, Face Painting and Tattoo Tent. It was great see lots of kids and also the parents dressing up to join in the fun. Thanks to the parents and coaches who assisted on the day. We hope all the kids come back next year to make it even a bigger and better 2016 hockey season for the young ones. F7 and F8 Lights officially opened 14/08/15

15/08/15: The Lighting Project was a mammoth task starting in October 2014 and now officially opened. Thank you to Warren Truss, Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Member for Wide Bay, for the official turning on of the lights. This was a great night with many dignitaries, life members, players and supporters attending. The first match on grass under lights also took place. This project would not have been possible without the many hours of hard work by volunteers.

Profile: Our Umpires

11/08/15:MDHA is extremely proud to have had a number of young umpires put their hand up to take on umpiring duties at State Championships. A number of these umpires were rewarded for their efforts by receiving umpire accreditation by HQ. It is great to see these young people committed and involved in umpiring. Umpiring can be rewarding and enjoyable but it also has its challenges. These people have shown they can step up to the mark and show confidence to take on these challenges. Annelyse, Rose, Maddy, Hannah, Diarmid ......... Gold and Silver

08/08/15: A mighty effort by these talented young hockey players who have just competed at the U12 Primary School Australian Championships in Perth. MDHA were very proud to have had four of our local girls in the Qld team. The girls had an outstanding championship to win the gold medal. Diarmid was the only local boy in the team and finished with a silver medal. Well done to you all!

U11 Rep Teams ... Winners at Southern Cross and Coulter Shield

02/08/15: Our U11 Rep teams competed at the Southern Cross and Coulter Shield Tournaments in Brisbane and all teams had fantastic results. The boys won Division 2 and the girls were equal winners of Division 2 however had better goals for and against. The very young No 2 team also did us proud. These kids had a wonderful time and for many of them it was their first time away competing at a big carnival. Full results and scorers of the games are on the 'Representative' menu 'Rep info 2015'.
